Johny Macharis – ex-professional racing cyclist

Johny Macharis is an ex-professional racing cyclist whose career lasted from 1989 to 1994. He rode for Westwood, the Swiss Mosoco-Chazal-Westwood and the Dutch Elro Snacks-Tönisteiner.
He was a road racer, but was mainly known as a track cyclist.

Macharis’ finest victory among professionals was in Kortemark in 1990. In 1989 he was the overall winner among the amateurs in the Ronde van de Kempen.

Johny took part in the World Championships for the military three times, in the Belgian Championship for the military on the track twice and in the Belgian Championship for the military on the road once. He won second place in the World Championship team time trial on the road.

He had a total of 40 victories in youth competitions and 2 in professional races.

Johny is the nephew of the well-known Willy ‘Rupske’ Lauwers.
